Quik Dog came to life in 2020 as an offshoot of local bar, Trick Dog. The challenge was creating a distinct brand identity while operating under the umbrella of a more well-known brand. Trick Dog and The Bon Vivants have always cultivated strong relationships with local artists and Quik Dog was no exception.
The QD mascot and brand identity proved to be a success and people responded positively to the design and voice of the brand. We were able to keep the business going, build up Quik Dog’s following on social media organically and subsequently were invited to participate in local festivals like Outsidelands, Bottle Rock, and West Coast Craft. Today Quik Dog still operates out of Trick Dog and is expanding to its new location at Mission Rock near Oracle Park very soon!

I combined Plock’s hand lettered custom type for the logo with Bowlby One SC as a chunky display font for the tagline and to be used on menus paired with Acumin Pro for subheads and body text. We stuck with a simple and recognizable color palette of primary colors. The north star throughout the process was that it had to be fun for kids of all ages. This was my first time putting together a design system for a brand and there was a lot to learn along the way.
We created collateral like these enamel pins and koozies to help build excitement. I had to modify the typography a bit to work on the small pins.
Designing labels for the bottled cocktails was a challenge on a small budget. The solution ended up being using mailing labels combined with our custom stickers. This way we could print easily and frequently on our own without spending a fortune.
Ferris Plock designed a lot of incredibly cool t-shirts for Quik Dog. This design was a limited edition with proceeds going towards Southern Exposure's annual Monster Drawing Rally fundraiser. Printed by Babylon Burning. Menu signage was created by me to fit the space above the window.
We converted the front of the space into a service window complete with a big QD decal, menu & signage. I had a lot of fun applying Ferris Plock's artwork to the ever-shifting menus and signage as the business grew and adapted to SF's health & safety regulations.
Here are some of the original crewneck sweatshirts that Babylon Burning screen printed.
We got a little cheeky with our merch and designed custom Quik Dog rolling papers for folks to purchase.

It was crucial to communicate with customers frequently on social media. Instagram became a main source of Quik Dog content to communicate rotating menu items and special promotions. This was where Quik Dog’s voice came to life and developed even further while reaching its target audience.
I had the pleasure of leading the Quik Dog Instagram account from its inception in 2020 through June 2023 with a lot of input from The Bon Vivants team.
